UAE Introduces ‘CARDS’ Data Platform to Enhance Air Cargo Industry

The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has unveiled the Cargo Data Reporting System (CARDS), an innovative platform designed to offer a suite of technical services to various stakeholders including government entities, national airlines, ground handling agents, and express service providers.CARDS represents a pioneering initiative, being the first of its kind to furnish an analytical perspective on air cargo activities to, from, and within the UAE.

CARDS provides market dynamics and communicates specific findings and market shares with national airlines, ground handling agencies, and express service providers by closely examining their performance measures.

This comprehensive approach empowers stakeholders to discern their organizational strengths and areas for improvement, thereby bolstering their competitive edge in the air cargo industry. Through CARDS, stakeholders can harness data-driven insights to optimize their operations, refine their strategies, and enhance their overall performance in the dynamic landscape of air cargo transportation.

Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the GCAA, emphasized that the UAE holds a globally competitive position as one of the leading nations in air cargo efficiency. This status is underpinned by a robust infrastructure comprising state-of-the-art airports, renowned cargo companies, and top-tier logistics services.

“Furthermore, alongside the UAE’s persistent commitment to enhancing its capabilities and potential in the pivotal air cargo sector, the introduction of the CARDS platform signifies a significant stride toward the nation’s global leadership in this crucial domain. Serving as a comprehensive data repository, CARDS facilitates the monitoring of challenges and the identification of obstacles that may impede air cargo movements to, from, and within the country.

This project is in complete harmony with the economic and development plans of the United Arab Emirates, as well as the goals expressed in the ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision. The goal of this vision is to establish the United Arab Emirates as a leading center for the new economy and the advancement of industries like logistics and aviation. Through initiatives like CARDS, the UAE reaffirms its dedication to fostering innovation, driving economic growth, and solidifying its status as a global leader in the aviation and logistics industries.”

He went on to say that the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and representatives of the air cargo industry have strengthened their collaboration with the launch of the new platform, which is a major milestone. By providing them with periodic and updated data on a monthly basis, the platform plays a pivotal role in facilitating decision-making processes, enabling strategic planning for the future, and fostering a more competitive environment within the civil aviation sector of the country.

The availability of timely and accurate data empowers stakeholders to make well-informed decisions regarding their operations, investments, and resource allocation. This data-driven approach enhances transparency, efficiency, and accountability across the air cargo sector, ultimately contributing to its overall growth and development.

Moreover, the continuous exchange of information between the GCAA and stakeholders promotes collaboration and mutual understanding, laying the foundation for effective partnerships and collective efforts to address challenges and capitalize on opportunities within the industry.

By leveraging the insights provided by the CARDS platform, stakeholders can identify emerging trends, anticipate market shifts, and adapt their strategies accordingly. This proactive approach not only enhances the resilience of the air cargo sector but also positions it for sustained success in an increasingly dynamic and competitive global marketplace.

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the General Civil Aviation Authority, expressed his pride in launching CARDS. He emphasized that the platform is distinguished by its accuracy, privacy features, and user-friendly interface. CARDS enables relevant government agencies to access real-time data on cargo movement within the country, thereby enhancing stakeholders’ capabilities to identify areas for development in air cargo movement.

Al Suwaidi underscored the significance of CARDS as a tool for promoting transparency and efficiency in the air cargo sector. By delivering timely and objective data, the platform empowers stakeholders to make informed decisions and implement strategic initiatives to optimize cargo movement operations.

Furthermore, Al Suwaidi highlighted the importance of collaboration among government agencies and industry stakeholders in leveraging CARDS effectively. By working together to analyze data and identify opportunities for improvement, they can enhance the overall efficiency and competitiveness of the air cargo sector in the UAE

Al Suwaidi emphasized the platform’s commitment to ongoing development and updates, ensuring the continual expansion of its information scope. This expansion aims to include major cities involved in both exporting and importing goods, along with highlighting the primary categories of goods shipped by air. Such enhancements will offer a comprehensive overview of air cargo movement and trade exchange dynamics within the country.

By continually updating the platform, stakeholders will have access to a wealth of data that accurately reflects the evolving landscape of air cargo movement. They will be able to recognize new trends, make well-informed judgments, and take advantage of fresh opportunities in the air freight sector thanks to this extensive knowledge.

Moreover, the inclusion of major cities and prominent categories of goods in the platform’s data will provide valuable insights into trade flows and market dynamics. This knowledge will not only facilitate strategic planning for businesses but also support policymakers in formulating effective policies to promote trade and economic growth.

Al Suwaidi’s commitment to continuous improvement underscores the platform’s dedication to serving the evolving needs of stakeholders in the air cargo sector. Through ongoing development and updates, the platform will remain a vital tool for enhancing transparency, efficiency, and competitiveness in air cargo movement and trade exchange in the UAE.
