Dubai: On March 23, the 87th meeting of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, which focused on sustainable energy initiatives to encourage the emirate’s green economy, was led by the council’s respected chairman, His Highness Ahmed bin Al Maktoum. The meeting was organized virtually, and the council’s Vice Chairman, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, was also noted.
Other respected dignitaries who attended this virtual meeting of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy are the council’s Secretary-General, Ahmed Buti Al Muhairabi, and board members; DLD’s Director General and DM’s Acting Director General, Marwan bin Ghalita; EGA’s Managing Director, Abdulla bin Kalban; ENOC’s CEO, Saif Humaid; Dubai Petroleum’s GM, Juan-Pablo Freile; and Chief Executive Officer at the Dubai RTA, Muna Alosaimi.
Dubai Supreme Council of Energy Vision for Green Economy
The virtual meeting held on March 23 was focused on advancing Dubai’s strategic and sustainable energy initiatives to reinforce its position as a global leader in energy innovation, which is a prime and proactive vision of the UAE to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. All the latest updates on Dubai’s Green Building regulations initiatives were reviewed by the council and other attending members of the meeting, as they are the basis for the Emirate’s green economy vision. To ensure transformation into zero-energy buildings in the long term, these regulations are focused on lowering carbon emissions by enhancing energy and water efficiency in new buildings.
In this virtual meeting, the regulatory framework for petroleum products trade was one of the main topics that were addressed and discussed. It was highlighted that the 2019 Resolution No. 16, which created the Committee for Regulating the Trading of Petroleum Products in the emirate has been successful. Several significant enhancements in safety protocols, risk management, and compliance among distributors have been achieved by the Committee’s efforts.
Dubai’s Vision to Become a Global Leader in a Green Economy
The Council’s Vice Chairman, Al Tayer, emphasizing Dubai’s strong dedication and vision for sustainable practices, said that the DSCE is consistently working towards achieving its 2050 vision for net-zero emissions with the successful implementation of initiatives that are aligned with the vision and His Highness and UAE’s PM, Sheikh Mohammed’s directions. He further said that the Committee formed to regulate petroleum products trade in the emirate and revised Green Building regulations showcase the Council’s determination and proactive approach to sustainable governance. This proactive approach ultimately reinforces the city’s position as the leading city for global green innovation.
He further added that we aim to reinforce Dubai’s leading position in the global energy transformation by stimulating the Dubai Clean Energy and Net Zero Carbon Emissions strategies for 2050 implementation, which will ensure the Emirate’s 100% of the energy production is sourced from clean energy sources. The Council’s Secretary-General, Al Muhairabi, added that they consolidate the emirate’s position as a national and regional model for energy governance through strategic green economy and sustainable initiatives. He also said that the Council’s initiatives and efforts are primarily focused on enhancing safety and sustainability and building a foundation for long-term economic stability.
