Dubai Shines as the Cleanest City in the World for the Fifth Consecutive Year

Dubai: The city renowned for its sky-touching towers, Dubai, maintained its position as the world’s cleanest city for the fifth time in a row. The latest report on the Global Power City Index by the Institute of Urban Strategies at the Mori Foundation in Japan. This outstanding recognition is a testament to Dubai Municipality’s dedication to maintaining cleanliness and establishing itself as a benchmark for future cities. 

Dubai’s Commitment to Cleanliness: A Testament to Sustainability

The glittering emirate of the UAE has maintained its reputation as the leader in sustainable urban development and provided a testament to its commitment to sustainability, environmental excellence, and superior international standards of living. Securing the achievement of the world’s cleanest city, Dubai surpassed over 47 cities worldwide by showing 100% satisfactory results in the measures set for assessing cities’ cleanliness under the environment pillar, which is considered one of the primary criteria to assess the global strength of the cities.

Dubai Cleanest City in the World: Reflecting Dedicated Efforts of Dubai Municipality

The prestigious achievement of securing the world title as the cleanest city for the fifth consecutive year is a reflection of the constant dedicated efforts of the Dubai Municipality, which works with many private and public sector partners to maintain Dubai’s cleanliness. Several integrated strategies and initiatives were implemented under the Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2041 vision, which aims to reduce waste generation by 18% and 100% diversion of waste from landfills in the next 15 years.

Acting General Director of Dubai Municipality, Marwan bin Ghalita, credited Dubai’s vision towards cleanliness and sustainability for this remarkable achievement. He said that the emirate’s number-one ranking as the world’s cleanest city is achieved through its determined vision to make Dubai the best place to live and work worldwide. Further explaining, he added that the unwavering commitment to the highest standards, great teamwork, and constant efforts have fueled Dubai’s leadership and excellence.

Bin Ghalta said that Dubai’s confidence in its teams has allowed the city to set another global benchmark for future cities that are defined by innovation, exceptional quality of life, and sustainability. Praising the efforts of Dubai’s Municipality cleanliness teams, comprising over 3,200 supervisors, engineers, and monitors, he said their unwavering commitment made Dubai hold the title of the world’s cleanest city for five consecutive years.

Dubai’s Municipality Cutting-Edge Sustainability and Cleanliness System

Supported by a fleet of 855 modern vehicles, equipment, and machinery, Dubai Municipality’s top-notch system oversees and ensures seamless operations all year round. In addition to this, the department manages daily cleanliness programs in diverse areas across the emirate, including 2,400 km of highways and roads, 1,419 sq. km areas of industrial zones, 33.4 km areas surrounding water canals and creeks, and other residential, rural, and market areas. The department also works on waste treatment of medical and other hazardous waste, including handling the removal of abandoned vehicles, and the disposal of old household furniture, and other equipment. Dubai Municipality performs surveillance of the private sector vehicles indulging in waste collection through E-systems.
