UAE: The Emirates residents will get the first long holiday of this year on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr, which is a major Islamic festival celebrated by Muslims worldwide. Eid-Al Fitr 2025 will signify the end of the month-long fast of Ramadan, making it a time of joy, celebration, and spiritual reflection. Its celebration lasts from one to multiple days, depending on the cultural and traditional beliefs in different countries.
This Islamic festival is celebrated on the first of Shawwal, the next month on the Islamic calendar after Ramadan. This auspicious festival marks the end of the month-long fasting during Ramadan. Depending on the sightings of the crescent moon, the Islamic Hijri months last for 29 or 30 days. During Eid Al Fitr 2025 in the UAE, the residents might get multiple holidays of up to 5 days, as this 3-day long festive celebration is coming around the weekend.

UAE to Officially Announce Eid Al Fitr 2025 Holidays on March 29
On March 29, 2025, Dubai’s moon-sighting committee will gather to confirm sightings of the crescent moon. If it is spotted, the holy month of Ramadan will end on its 29th day, and Emirati residents will get a break from March 30 to April 1. However, when the Saturday weekend is also integrated with this break, a four-day break will be granted to all UAE residents.
In case the sighting of the crescent moon does not happen on March 29, the auspicious month of Ramadan will last for one more day, making it a 30-day fasting month. This year, the 30th day of Ramadan is itself a holiday as it falls on a Sunday. So, with a crescent moon sighting on Sunday, the next three days up to April 2 will be granted as breaks. When the Saturday-Sunday weekend is combined with the 3-day break, the UAE residents will ultimately get a five-day break on Eid Al Fitr.
Astronomical Calculations Indicate Ramadan 2025 Expected to Last 30 Days
Eid Al Fitr 2025 is more auspicious and joyous for UAE residents, as the Dubai Astronomy Group’s astronomical calculations are indicating that the Ramadan month will last for 30 days this year, which means that on this major Islamic festival, the residents will get a five-day break. The official announcement is yet to be made on March 29, the date on which the crescent moon sighting is expected.
The UAE residents are encouraged by the Dubai Astronomy Group to participate in the traditional practice of crescent moon sighting. By using their binoculars or telescopes, they can attempt to secure a sighting of the crescent moon on the western horizon after the sunset. The group has also announced that the residents must report their observation of the moon sighting to the local or official moon-sighting committee.
Eid Al Fitr 2025, a time for spiritual renewal, strengthening family and social bonds, and expressing gratitude to Allah for giving strength during Ramadan, in the UAE is likely to commence on March 31 with the crescent moon sighting on March 30.
