In an important step to support the cultural and creative sectors in the UAE, the Ministry of Culture has announced the beneficiaries of the National Grant Program for Culture and Creativity – Cycle 2. This program, launched in August 2023, aims to provide financial support to talented Emirati individuals in various cultural and creative fields, helping to strengthen the UAE’s cultural and creative economy.
A total of AED 3,296,300 has been awarded to 43 Emirati talents. These grants are intended to support individuals who play a crucial role in the development of the country’s cultural and creative sectors. The second cycle of the program saw a significant increase in the number of applications, especially from projects that align with sustainable development goals, showcasing a rise in both the quality and variety of submissions.
The program focuses on four main categories: Creation and Production, Promotion and Local Participation, Capacity Development, and International Travel and Mobility. The selected beneficiaries come from diverse fields such as writing, film and television, music, visual arts, design, performing arts, cultural heritage, and video games.
Creation and Production Category
The Creation and Production category is one of the key areas of support in the grant program. It provides financial backing for the creation of new works in various creative fields.
In the visual arts and design sectors, some of the top beneficiaries include Jumairi, Sheikha Al Mazrou, Jumana Al Hashemi, Asma Balhamar, and Moza Al Matroushi. Their work in visual arts and design was recognized for its contribution to the cultural scene in the UAE.
In the field of music, grants were awarded to Arqam Al Abri, Ihab Darwish, Mansour Al Hira, and Hamad Al Taie. These musicians were supported to help them create new musical works that reflect the diverse musical heritage of the UAE.
In film and television, awardees included Iman Al Sayed and Nayla Al Khaja, who were recognized for their contributions to the growing film industry in the UAE. Their work is expected to help elevate the film and television sector, both locally and internationally.
In the writing and publishing field, grants were awarded to Salem Al Suwaidi and Sarah Al Muhairi, among others, to help them develop new literary works and publications that reflect the rich cultural heritage and modern experiences of the UAE.
Promotion and Local Participation Category
The Promotion and Local Participation category is aimed at supporting initiatives that promote Emirati culture and encourage local participation in cultural activities.
In this category, grants were awarded to Mohammed Al Habsi and Maryam Juma for their efforts in promoting local culture and encouraging community engagement in cultural activities. Their projects are designed to raise awareness of the importance of cultural participation and help preserve and celebrate Emirati traditions.
Capacity Development Category
The Capacity Development category focuses on enhancing the skills and abilities of individuals working in the cultural and creative sectors. This includes providing training, workshops, and other forms of professional development to help artists and creatives improve their craft.
Awardees in this category include Shahad Al Kaabi, Aisha Al Hammadi, and Muhammad Al Suwaidi, who received grants to support their professional development. In the music sector, Nada Al Aidaroos was recognized for her efforts in improving her skills and expertise in music production.
International Travel and Mobility Category
The International Travel and Mobility category provides financial support to individuals who wish to participate in international events, exhibitions, and other cultural exchanges. This category is designed to help Emirati artists and creatives gain exposure on the global stage and bring international experiences back to the UAE.
In this category, Amina Al Jarman Al Ali was honored for her plans to travel and participate in international cultural events, where she will represent the UAE and share her creative works with a global audience.
Other Fields
In the performing arts and theatre category, awardees included Sheikha Sarah Al Qasimi and Samir Al Balushi, who were recognized for their contributions to the UAE’s performing arts scene. Their work is expected to help enhance the performing arts industry in the UAE.
In the area of cultural heritage, grants were awarded to Amna Al Shamsi, Maha Al Neyadi, and Amna Al Qubaisi, who were recognized for their efforts in preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the UAE.
In the growing field of video games, Hamad Khoury received a grant to support his work in creating video games that reflect Emirati culture and stories.
