UAE: Ramadan, the sacred month for Muslims, which falls in the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, began on March 1, 2025, with the crescent moon sighting on the night of February 28. As the crescent moon sighting was spotted in KSA, the US, Emirates, Australia, and other countries, the Muslims in India are still waiting for this holy sighting.
IAC has reported seeing the crescent moon, and the Al-Khatim Astronomical Observatory has taken the first picture of it. This sighting marks the beginning of the holy period for Muslims, and it has been announced by the UAE’s Presidential Court that March 1, 2025, will be the first day of the Ramadan month.

Welcoming Ramadan 2025: Begins on March 1, 2025
With the crescent moon sighting on the night of February 28, Ramadan has begun on March 1, and throughout this holy month, Muslims across the world will observe fasting (Roza), which is considered one of the five pillars of Islam. During the fasting from dusk till dawn in the Ramadan month, Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, and doing any evil practice and completely devote themselves to spirituality.
As the Presidential Court announced the beginning of the Ramadan 2025 from March 1 onwards, the court sent their heartfelt greetings and warm wishes to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and His Highness Mohammed bin Rashid, Supreme Council’s members, His Highness Sheikh Mansour, other rulers, crown princes, the Emirati people, and Muslims worldwide.
Ramadan 2025 Begins: India Still Awaits Crescent Moon Sighting
Ramadan 1446 AH commenced on March 1, 2025, with the observation on February 28 of the crescent moon. The sighting was spotted in the Emirates, KSA, the US, Australia, etc.; however, Muslims in countries, including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Philippines, etc., are still awaiting the sighting. In the countries where sightings were not spotted, the first fast day will be March 2, and the taraweeh, which are special and longer night prayers than daily prayers, will begin from the evening of March 1. The period of Ramadan is of importance to the Islamic community, as they consider this month as a time for self-reflection and spiritual growth.
