What is your company name and contacts?
The name of the company is Revolancer. As the digital era came full swing, onsite workers started to migrate to the digital space. This was brought about during the pandemic and further solidified the existence of digital nomads on the internet.
Revolancer plays a part in this remote work era. Revolancer is a freelance marketplace that aims to give freedom back to freelancers. The platform offers an avenue for freelancers to find clients, charges zero commission fees, and the ability for freelancers and clients to communicate off the platform.
Who are the founders and co-founders of the company?
Karl Swanepoel is the CEO and founder of Revolancer. He is a tech entrepreneur based in the UK. With a previous exit in the freelance marketplace space, Karl was the youngest ambassador ever for the Business Show, Britain’s largest business conference.
Aside from the founder Karl, Revolancer is co-founded by Skye Brady who functions as the CTO (Chief Technological Officer). Skye is a full-stack developer on large web app projects formerly at Gloversure.
A complete journey about the company and founder and co-founders? When you have started, how and where?
At the age of 14, Karl started freelancing in order to earn money. He was quickly met with painful problems that most online workers were plagued with – the presence of high commission fees, the difficulty of getting clients, and heavy communication restrictions.
That sparked his interest in fixing freelancing conditions and ever since he has diligently worked towards that goal.
As Karl studied his final year at Wales’ Aberystwyth University, he spent his hours developing Revolancer and submitted it to the university’s InvEnterPrize Startup Competition where he garnered not only the first prize but also a £13,000 grant to fund this venture in 2021.
With Revolancer as the prime idea, he also won another grant, the Engineers in Business grant, and was a finalist in their national competition.
6 months later, Revolancer raised a £160k pre-seed round lead by SFC Capital, and today Revolancer is fast-growing, has 15,000+ users, and is backed by high-profile angels including Bob Skinstad (former SA national Rugby captain), and Mat Braddy (Just Eat founder).
Who are your customers? And have you supplied it to anyone? What is the feedback?
We mainly cater to all freelancers who want to get a client and business owners who need work done. Freelancers can offer any service they like such as graphic design, web design, media, marketing, writing, business support, programming, and virtual assistant services. At the same time, if there are business owners in need of that, they can definitely hop on to Revolancer and choose from the vetted freelancers on the marketplace.
What support do you need from the public and customers?
We would love for freelancers and business owners to continue using the platform. We would love our vision to become reality by being a platform for great opportunities in this era of work.
Is there any breakeven?
We are currently generating early-stage revenue and we hope to expand that as the years go by.
