Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced a groundbreaking program called the Professional Engineering Career Path initiative, which is the first of its kind in the UAE.
With the help of this effort, engineers will be able to pursue specialized career paths that are adapted to the needs of the labor market and provide stable employment. The program focuses on helping engineers develop the skills needed to succeed in their careers and adapt to the needs of the industry.
In addition to this, RTA has also launched the Fast Track initiative. This program aims to attract top Emirati engineering graduates who have excelled academically. The Fast Track initiative provides these graduates with both technical and administrative training, preparing them to become future experts in RTA’s engineering fields.
Together, these initiatives are set to enhance the engineering sector within the RTA, ensuring that it has a steady stream of highly skilled professionals who are well-prepared to meet the challenges of the industry.
By offering vital resources for professional development, RTA hopes to develop prospects for Emirati talent through these two projects. This raises professional standards, enhances the work atmosphere, and increases operational efficiency in addition to increasing job happiness. These initiatives are in line with the Emiratization strategies of the United Arab Emirates and Dubai, which center on developing the technical and specialized skills of domestic people and training them for stable employment.
The Professional Engineering Career Path and Fast Track programs demonstrate RTA’s commitment to the leadership’s goal of assisting the next generation of Emiratis and motivating them to achieve success and innovation. These programs aim to provide job stability and career advancement opportunities for Emirati engineers within the RTA.
Professional Engineering Career Path Initiative
Set to launch in Q4 2024, the Professional Engineering Career Path initiative is exclusively for engineers. It provides a clear and structured career ladder that aligns with market needs. The initiative offers promotion opportunities, allowing engineers to progress from “Engineer” in Grade 11 to “Consultant Engineer” in Grade 16.
This initiative is designed to foster a competitive spirit among Emirati engineers, motivating them to achieve excellence and boost their productivity. By driving them towards higher performance, the initiative aims to prepare them for leadership and senior professional roles within the RTA.
Starting in the first quarter of 2025, the Fast Track initiative aims to support Emirati engineering graduates with excellent academic records. This program offers a mix of technical and administrative training over two years, allowing participants to quickly advance in their careers. Graduates will start as “Engineers” at Grade 11 and move up to “Senior Engineers” at Grade 13 by the end of the program.
The training includes intensive technical and specialized courses, mentorship, and job rotations to help participants gain a wide range of skills. They will also work on various technical projects assigned by their managers, which will help them become more skilled and efficient. The ultimate goal is for these engineers to earn professional certifications and be well-prepared for higher-level roles in their careers.
For individuals wishing to apply for the Professional Engineering Career Path, RTA has set some qualifications. These prerequisites include completing the promotion conditions specified in The Dubai Human Resources Management Law, passing specific tests, years of experience, professional certificates, and academic degrees.
For new engineering graduates, several key criteria must be met. Firstly, applicants must be UAE nationals. They need to hold a university degree or an equivalent qualification in engineering from an accredited institution, with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Additionally, candidates must have graduated no more than two years prior to applying.
Age is also a factor, with applicants needing to be between 21 and 26 years old. Completion of the National and Reserve Service is mandatory for all candidates. Language proficiency in both Arabic and English is required to ensure effective communication and understanding in the workplace.
Furthermore, candidates must meet the general employment conditions set by RTA and pass the selection tests and interviews. These criteria ensure that only the most qualified and prepared candidates are chosen for the Professional Engineering Career Path at RTA.
The RTA has many skilled engineers in different fields such as civil, electrical, mechanical, structural, architectural, and computer engineering. They have more than 230 Emirati engineers and other engineering experts working together. This diverse team brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the organization, ensuring that all projects are handled with the highest level of professionalism and technical proficiency.
