The journey of founder and co-founders?
In 2007, I embarked on my first entrepreneurial venture. Alongside my university classmates, we raised a small friends and family round of funding and launched an insurance brokerage. Our vision was to create a high-quality IT-enabled service, but unfortunately, the timing coincided with the onset of a severe financial crisis. As a result, we were forced to close our company in 2009.
From this experience, I gained several valuable lessons that personally resonated with me – Building a startup requires more than just a financial plan; it demands genuine passion. In other words, the decision to create a startup should stem from an irresistible drive rather than a mere desire. True dedication and enthusiasm for what you’re building can sustain you through the inevitable challenges that arise. Having too many co-founders can dilute responsibility and potentially lead to failure. It is crucial for one leader to assume ultimate responsibility for making difficult business decisions and guiding the team. This clear leadership helps streamline decision-making processes and ensures a cohesive direction.
It’s crucial to note that these lessons may not apply universally to every entrepreneurial journey. Some individuals may successfully start a business by prioritizing financial considerations, especially if the idea has strong commercial potential. Additionally, there are instances where co-founding teams excel because they can compensate for each other’s weaknesses and collaborate effectively.

This responsibility is challenging to delegate since it rests squarely on the shoulders of the founder.
