UAE implements new visa rules: Proof of stay, return tickets mandatory

Visitors preparing to go to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) now are required to be aware of the latest regulations about acquiring a visit visa which have been implemented to improve obedience and control misuse. Before submitting applications for visit visas, applicants need to complete specific monetary and document necessities.

Travel agents explained that the new, stricter requirements are designed to prevent misuse of visit visas and to ensure that applicants can financially support themselves while in the UAE. As a result, agents are now more active in reviewing applications to minimize rejections and simplify the process.

Previously, travelers were advised to bring Dh3,000 in cash, a return ticket, and proof of accommodation when flying to the UAE. However, agents have now clarified that these requirements must be met at the time of the visa application itself.

What is a UAE Visit Visa?

A UAE visit visa is a type of visa issued by the United Arab Emirates that allows the holder to enter the country for personal visits, business matters, or social purposes such as visiting friends or relatives. It is required for individuals who are not nationals of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Key Requirements for UAE Visit Visa

Here are the key requirements that an applicant must fulfill:

  • Financial Proof: Visitors must show proof of sufficient funds, which should be at least Dh 3,000 (about 816 USD or Rs 67,948). This can be provided in the form of cash or a credit card with the equivalent amount.
  • Return Ticket: A valid return ticket is mandatory as part of the requirements that ensure that travelers have a planned departure from the UAE which is essential for visa approval.
  • Accommodation Proof: Visitors need to provide evidence of where they will stay during their time in the UAE. This could be in the form of hotel reservations or a letter from friends or relatives residing in the UAE.
  • Passport Validity: Passports should have a minimum of six months’ validity from the date of travel.

Changes in the Application Process

Travel agents in the UAE indicate that these requirements must now be met during the visa application process, rather than at the airport. This change aims to facilitate visa approvals and reduce the chances of rejection due to missing documents. Travel agents suggest that travelers prepare all essential paperwork in advance to prevent delays or other hindrances.

The UAE authorities are strict about adhering to these regulations. Travelers who fail to meet the conditions may be restricted from boarding their flight or detained upon arrival in Dubai. Recent reports highlight cases where individuals were stranded due to non-compliance which further highlights the importance of following the updated rules.
