The Emirates is known for being home to the richest, fastest, and tallest landmarks in the world, and with the Dubai Metro Blue Line, which is going to the world’s tallest metro station, it has made another astonishing record. The ruler of Dubai and the visionary leader of the UAE has played a significant role in this innovative project.
He has officially ordered the start of the work on the first station in the Blue Line network. The station is connected with Emaar Properties, and its construction is expected to finish by September 9, 2029. Once again, the specific number nine is chosen, which holds a deep meaning in major projects of the emirate.
Emaar to Lead the Development of the Blue Line Project
From its opening in 2029, Emaar will have the right to name the station for the next ten years. Moreover, a brand new design for the world’s tallest station was also revealed, and it is very unique and different from the metro stations Dubai currently has. With an amazing height of 74 meters, the Emaar Properties Metro Station will be the tallest in the world. It will mark the beginning of the new Blue Line, which will stretch 30 km. However, its length will further increase up to 131 km, and it will connect 78 stations across the emirate.

Architect of the World’s Tallest Building Now Designs the Tallest Metro Station
There is a natural question that might come to everyone’s mind: Who designed the world’s tallest metro station? On June 09, 2025, it was revealed that the genius team behind the Burj Khalifa is leading this project’s design. The famous American architecture firm, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), is behind the design of this innovative project. With global attention on this partnership, many have called it the Best Startup Story in architectural innovation.
This station will stand at a height of 74 meters, and will have three levels with beautiful architecture on every floor. Dubai Metro Blue Line’s tallest metro station design is very unique, as it has a portal-like shape, which looks like a gateway to the future.
At first glance, the station’s tall walls seem sky-touching while strongly connected to the ground. The warm, natural colors and textures, with ceilings having glass panels that will let sunlight into the lobby and platforms, offer a welcoming and modern look. The platforms appear to emerge from the station’s walls, while a pedestrian bridge will help passengers reach the metro line easily. The perfect blend of natural stone and metals in its design offers a glimpse of the traditional Dubai architectural style. The walls of this station will be adorned with Jura limestone bronze panels, while floor tiles will be made of granite.
World’s Tallest Metro Station: A New Chapter in Dubai Transport
The design of the Blue Line was earlier revealed in October 2024, when a model of the station, showing a large and oval-shaped structure built over the tracks, was showcased. Unlike the fully enclosed stations on the Red and Green Lines, its design is very unique and different.
However, the latest revealed design is completely different from the earlier model, as it features tall vertical walls around the platform, while still keeping the classic metro terminal arch seen on the Red and Green Lines.
This station will develop as a small community, as it will feature electric vehicle charging points, drop-off spaces, parking spots, etc. It is expected that by 2040, this station will serve 160,000 passengers every day, and its launch on September 09, 2029, will coincide with the Dubai Metro’s 20th anniversary.
