Residents in Dubai can soon enjoy driving across the city without touching the steering wheel. You might think it is just an imagination, but it is soon going to be a reality, as Tensor, a leading AI firm from Silicon Valley, is set to unveil Tensor Robocar in Dubai. Dubai will host the launch of the first Level 4 personal autonomous vehicle at the World Congress for Self-Driving Transport.
Its creator promised Level 4 autonomy, which means Tensor Robocar can drive without human intervention, even in most situations. However, the human driver will have the option to drive if necessary. Additionally, the company confirmed that this personal robocar can manage all driving within approved zones across the city without supervision. The driver can take control over the wheels or opt for assisted driving for a smooth transition between self-driving and manual control.
Tensor Robocar: Tensor’s Innovation on Dubai Roads
On September 18, CMO at Tensor, Amy Luca, said in a statement shared that they are excited to launch Tensor in Dubai. She also said Dubai is a city known globally for its innovation. She added that Tensor Robocar, set to launch in the city, is the world’s first true personal Robocar.
The company’s robocar is going to make its debut at the Dubai Autonomous Transport Congress. This high-end event, organized by the RTA and will be held on September 24 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. This futuristic car is promoted as a world-first, category-defining product. It is nearly the size of a big SUV, with a wheelbase of 124 inches. However, the length, height, and width of the car without counting the side mirror are 217.5, 78.3, and 79.9 inches, respectively.
The customers can expect deliveries of this advanced car in the second half of next year. The company also confirmed that this is not like a usual electric car, but is a smart robot on wheels. This Robocar can learn how to see, predict, and plan its moves using real-world and simulated data. It is built using Agentic AI technology, a type of AI technology that allows machines to make decisions and perform tasks without human help.
This remarkable journey of Tensor from a Silicon Valley AI startup to launching the world’s first personal Robocar in Dubai can truly be seen as one of the best startup story, reflecting how innovation, technology, and vision come together to transform the future of mobility.
Tensor Robocar with Advanced Safety Features
Tensor says its Robocar is designed so no single part can cause a failure. It features backup systems for sensors, communications, computing, power, temperature control, and drive-by-wire. Besides these, the washer systems for lidars and cameras with smart sensor covers ensure clear visibility and reliable performance even in Dubai’s harsh climate. Moreover, it features more than 100 sensors, including 37 cameras, 5 lidars, and 11 radars, promising excellent visibility at all times.
The company explained that its advanced electronic system and security features make sure this robocar works safely in all situations. The car features clear lidar sightlines, a low hood profile, and other features, which clearly show the company’s commitment to clients’ safety. From desert glare and dust to night driving, fog, and even heavy rain, this self-driving car offers reliable performance in all conditions. It features a dual AI system that works like a human brain. The first system reacts quickly to routine situations, while the other uses a smart visual-language model to make careful decisions in rare and complex situations.
Robocar’s Folding Wheel and Smart Cabin Transform Driving
Besides self-driving and self-parking features, Tensor Robocar is introducing the first-ever fold-away steering wheel and pull-away pedals. If it is operated in autonomous mode, its stowable steering wheel integrates with the self-driving feature, leaving no moving parts near the driver’s seat. Then, the center screen slides into the driver’s view, and the pedals also fold away, transforming the seat into a comfortable lounging space.
Tensor has partnered with leading semiconductor companies, including Nvidia, Sony, Oracle, and VinFast. Moreover, it is also working with Marsh to offer the world’s first insurance policy specifically designed for Robocars. The event for which it is confirmed to be introduced is expected to have more than 3,000 attendees and 85 speakers. From FMVSS to GSO, this self-driving car not only meets but exceeds the required global safety standards.
San Jose-based American AI company Tensor, with its Level 4 autonomous vehicle, showed its commitment to offering reliable and advanced smart mobility solutions. With the launch of this Robocar, the world will get a glimpse into the future of safe and luxurious travel.
