Guidelines for Displaying the UAE National Flag

Residents must be aware of the strict guidelines for displaying the UAE National Flag to avoid any legal issues. UAE’s PM, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, shared a post on his official social media, celebrating UAE Flag Day, showing their loyalty and love for their flag, as it is a symbol of their unity and pride.

  • The first guideline is that the flag must be rectangular, and its height must be half of its width. Moreover, the colors must be displayed in the correct order.
  • Owners must check the flag condition every 45 days to make sure it is not damaged. The flag must be changed every six months. These rules apply to places where the flag is displayed permanently, like government buildings or embassies.
  • The Emirati government has also made it clear that the flag should never be misused. It must not have symbols added to it. It must not be used to decorate clothing or disposable materials. Moreover, it and its design can’t be used as wrapping for food items.

About the UAE Flag: Meaning of Its Colors

The UAE flag has four colors: green, white, black, and red. These colors together represent Arab unity. This was designed by a young Emirati, Abdullah Mohammad Al Maainah, after he saw an advertisement for a flag design competition. That young boy later became the Minister of Foreign Affairs making it one of the best startup story in UAE history.

  • Red: This color represents courage, strength, and bravery. The red stripe also represents unity, tying all the other colors together.
  • Green: It represents hope, joy, optimism, and love. It also reflects the country’s growth and prosperity.
  • White: This color stands for peace, honesty, and purity. White is believed as a color of purity and good intentions.
  • Black: Unlike popular common belief, this color doesn’t represent oil. It stands for the defeat of enemies and the strength of mind.
