Celebrating Two Years of the Museum of the Future on February 22nd

Having welcomed more than 2 million visitors spanning 172 countries, the museum has evolved into a worldwide center for innovation and futuristic exploration. This aligns seamlessly with the visionary outlook of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai.

Over the last two years, the museum has transformed into a focal point for innovation, education, and future foresight, emerging as a symbol of knowledge and creativity. Playing host to over 280 distinguished events, it drew the participation of more than 20,000 attendees from across the globe. The museum has cemented its position as a worldwide destination by hosting more than 40 heads of state and government, ministers, and official delegations during their official trips to the United Arab Emirates. In addition, it has hosted more than 370 delegations of local, regional, and international media, highlighting Dubai’s and the UAE’s forward-thinking efforts.

Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Chairman of the Museum of the Future, emphasized that the extraordinary accomplishments and unprecedented figures achieved by the museum in the past two years are a testament to the forward-thinking vision that laid the foundation for this knowledge-centric institution. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s ambitious vision is motivated by the desire to establish Dubai as a global hub for the future.

He further stated,

“A strong statement was sent to the globe by the Museum of the Future’s opening in 2022: this area was ready to mold and impact humanity’s future. It not only confirmed Dubai’s leadership in vision, but it also made the city one of the world’s most progressive and innovative cities. The museum has evolved into a thriving center for intellectual creation, education, and creation in just two years.”

Continuing his remarks, he elaborates

“The inception and launch of the Museum of the Future at the World Government Summit marked its evolution from an ambitious concept to a distinguished and enduring global hub. Leaning on thinkers, futurists, and international organizations that specialize in future projections, the museum serves as a stimulant for strengthening international cooperation in predicting the opportunities and problems that are anticipated in the upcoming decades. Set to play a pivotal role, the museum will continue to expose the globe to avant-garde future technology, inventive inventions, and revolutionary shifts that have the potential to affect many aspects of human existence.”

In February 2015, during the 3rd edition of the World Governments Summit, the earliest incarnation of what has now evolved into the ‘Museum of the Future’ was showcased. It exhibited the most prominent innovations and services envisioned for future governments. The museum’s inception traces back to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum advertising the liftoff of the ‘Museum of the Future’ assignment on March 3, 2015. The project was conceived with the ambitious goal of becoming a global center that represents the concept of Dubai and the UAE for the future. Subsequently, the Dubai Future Foundation took charge of institutionalizing future foresight.

The construction of the Museum of the Future commenced in 2017, incorporating innovative 3D printing technology into the construction process. By 2018, the realization of its state-of-the-art structure was accomplished, culminating in its official inauguration on February 22, 2022.

The greatest network of futurists worldwide, the “Global Futures Society,” has made the Museum of the Future a primary core. The Global Futures Society currently has 40 of the most prestigious futures institutions in the world among its membership, with 36 institutions from 17 different nations joining. This cooperative platform brings together research and knowledge centers, strategic planning organizations, and critical future design. Collectively, they work to align future goals, highlight noteworthy prospects, and develop practical approaches to proactively tackle a range of issues by foreseeing and planning for changes.

The distinctive architectural design of the Museum of the Future comprises 1,024 stainless steel pieces meticulously crafted with the assistance of specialized robots, spanning an expansive area exceeding 17,000 square meters.

The Arabic calligraphy adorning the museum conveys an inspirational, encouraging, and motivated message to the world from our future city. Designed by Emirati artist Mattar bin Lahej, the calligraphy draws inspiration from the impactful words of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. These quotes encapsulate profound wisdom: “Our creativity can forge a legacy beyond our years,” “The future is shaped by those who imagine, design, and execute – not something awaited, but created,” and “Innovation is the key to life’s renewal, civilization’s development, and humanity’s progress.”

The Museum of the Future provides an engaging and educational experience, allowing visitors to delve into the future and gain insights into the latest upcoming technologies.
