New Bridge Near Mall of the Emirates Transforms Dubai Traffic Flow

Dubai: The traffic is now flowing more smoothly near the Mall of the Emirates, as a new bridge is reducing congestion around it. The emirate’s transport authority, RTA, partnered with Majid Al Futtaim Properties to launch a bridge near Mall of the Emirates. This bridge on SZR will help travelers coming from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali to reach this high-end mall directly.

This new bridge near the Mall of the Emirates is a single-lane bridge, but it has the capacity to handle up to 900 vehicles per hour. This project by RTA aims to support Sheikh Zayed Road traffic improvement and lower congestion around the city’s highly popular shopping destination. Before this bridge, motorists coming from the Abu Dhabi side used to reach this high-end mall in a 10-minute drive, but the drive is now reduced to just one minute.

New 300-Meter Bridge Opens on Sheikh Zayed Road

The newly opened 300-meter bridge near Mall of the Emirates on Sheikh Zayed Road is a key project that will cut travel times and improve traffic management in the area. Moreover, this project also turned the road near the Kempinski Hotel into a two-way road. The upgrade improved the mall’s entrances, nearby walkways, cycling tracks, intersections, and roads.

RTA first announced this infrastructure project in January; however, it opened recently on October 5, 2025. With this bridge, those coming from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali can now directly reach the parking areas in the Mall of the Emirates. Moreover, those traveling to this popular shopping destination from Umm Suqeim can reach it in just an 8-minute drive, which was previously 15 minutes.

New Mall of the Emirates Bridge Boosts Road Safety & Eases Congestion

RTA’s Director General and Board Chairman, Mattar Al Tayer, said this newly launched project by the Dubai transport authority aims to improve traffic management. He also said this bridge will make it easier for residents and visitors to travel across several destinations within the city.

He further added that this bridge’s development has widened the southbound ramp at the Umm Suqeim junction. This upgraded junction will now provide smoother access to all vehicles coming from Umm Suqeim Street to the mall’s parking facilities.

As the RTA has also upgraded 2.5 km of roads surrounding the mall and six signalized intersections have been added. Moreover, the bus station near the Mall of the Emirates Metro Station is also redesigned. Al Tayer further added that this bridge will significantly improve traffic management and road safety around this popular mall. This project is often cited in the best startup story discussions for Dubai’s innovative infrastructure planning.

New Bridge and Redevelopment Ease Access to the Emirates Mall

The new Dubai RTA infrastructure project is part of the bigger AED 165 million project, which aims to improve traffic flow and management around Al Barsha. Mall of the Emirates, near which the new bridge has been developed, welcomes more than 40 million visitors in a year. Majid Al Futtaim has confirmed a redevelopment of AED 5 million to mark its 20th anniversary. Up to 100 additional stores will open as part of a 20,000-square-meter retail expansion, featuring high-end fashion, lifestyle, and luxury brands.

Besides shopping outlets, the development will also feature a modern health club, cultural hub, dining zone, and other infrastructure upgrades. This high-end shopping destination is home to 3 five-star hotels: Novotel Suites Mall Avenue Dubai, Kempinski Hotel, and Sheraton Mall of the Emirates Hotel. Additionally, the mall is directly connected to the Mall of the Emirates Metro Station, offering visitors easy access to all the facilities within the complex.
