UAE National Day Holiday: UAE Announces Extended Eid Al Etihad Weekend for Government Staff

The four-day weekend for government employees for the last public holiday of 2025 in the UAE has been confirmed. This long break will mark the celebration of National Day, which is now officially known as Eid Al Etihad.

December 1 and 2, 2025, have been announced as paid holidays for public sector employees. This means the federal entities and ministries will resume their work on December 3, 2025 (Wednesday). With Saturday and Sunday added, residents in the UAE will enjoy a long and relaxed four-day weekend break.

The private sector will also get paid holidays on December 1 and 2, as announced by the MOHRE. This update came shortly after the FAHR released the same holiday schedule for the public sector. This means not only government staff but also private employees will enjoy the upcoming four-day holiday break.

How the UAE’s Holiday Adjustment Rule Works

A Cabinet resolution implemented from January 1, 2025, permits some UAE public holidays to be shifted to the start or end of the week if they fall on weekdays. So, because of this rule, the earlier announcement, which had set December 2 and 3 as paid holidays for Eid Al Etihad, has been updated. This year, the holidays for the National Day celebration have officially been moved to December 1 and 2.

  • This holiday adjustment rule does not apply for Eid Holidays unless the Cabinet issues a special decision.
  • The Emirates also follows a single holiday system for both government and private sector workers.
  • This system makes sure that all employees in the country get the same number of days off each year.

Eid Al Etihad: UAE’s National Day Festivities Across the Emirates

The UAE celebrates its founding with Eid Al Etihad every year on December 2. This day honors the unity of the seven emirates and the pride of everyone who calls the Emirates their home.

  • The meaning of the Arabic phrase Eid Al Etihad is Festival of The Unions. The word Etihad means union, which reflects the central part of the UAE’s national identity. It represents the country’s values of heritage, strength, and pride.
  • Based on the details available on the official Eid Al Etihad website, this festival is a reminder that UAE’s strength comes from working together. It comes from people and communities across the nation. Many cultural events also highlight inspiring achievements, including the best startup story contributions that reflect innovation and progress in the UAE.
  • This celebration honors the historic day in 1971 when the UAE was created by the union of seven emirates.

Eid Al Etihad brings families and communities together, as they celebrate the UAE’s proud past, enjoy the present, and look forward to the future. Special events, including cultural shows, heritage parades, family activities, food festivals, and many more exciting experiences, will be hosted in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and other emirates within the country.

These events will make the Eid Al Etihad weekend break more memorable. Residents in Dubai can enjoy live performances, featuring Emirati singer Balqees on stage at Festival Bay. They can also enjoy comedy shows, theatre performances, thrilling sport events, and amazing fireworks displays that will light up the city skyline.
