A new rule in Dubai, the UAE’s glamorous city of skyscrapers, has been officially announced for the delivery bikes. This new rule applies to all motorcycles and e-bikes used by companies for delivery services. From the end of December, vehicles used for corporate delivery services in Dubai must display both front and rear number plates.
This change will become operative at the end of December and will be applied when delivery bike licenses are renewed. An important point to note is that this rule applies only to delivery bikes, and private motorcycles are not included in this. The main purpose of announcing the new Dubai delivery bike number plate rule is to make bikes used for deliveries easily identifiable on the road.
How the New Delivery Bike Plates Will Appear
As delivery services are continuously growing in Dubai, a new number plate rule has been introduced for delivery bikes. This rule has made it mandatory that all motorcycles used by companies for deliveries must have both front and rear plates. Here is what the new front plate of delivery bikes will feature:
- The new plates will have a gold background with black text.
- The text will carry a special code, 9, to clearly identify delivery vehicles.
- These number plates will be issued under a single number during license renewals.
- It will also be issued when applying for a new license or if the previous plate is damaged or lost.
Who Must Follow Dubai’s New Front Number Plate Rule?
Dubai RTA has confirmed that this rule only applies to bikes and motorcycles used for parcel and document deliveries. Companies offering order management services need to get the new number plate for bikes used by their employees. Additionally, this rule will also affect bikes used for rental delivery services. However, private motorcycles are not included in this rule, so they don’t need to follow this requirement.
Why Dubai Introduced a New Number Plate Rule for Delivery Bikes
RTA’s Licensing Agency’s CEO, Ahmed Mahboob, has confirmed that the latest Dubai delivery bikes and motorcycles number plate update is to ensure better safety, improved monitoring, and tight control of the quickly growing delivery sector. This sector has played a key role in shaping Dubai’s best startup story, especially in food delivery, logistics, and last-mile services.
With this rule, Dubai has aligned its standards with the best global practices. This decision comes after joint efforts by the Dubai Police and RTA to improve safety and adhere to traffic rules. This move is part of the bigger plan to ensure safer roads. However, this is not the first step taken by Dubai authorities to regulate delivery bikes.
Earlier, the RTA and Dubai Police introduced rules that prevent delivery bikes from using specific fast lanes on multi-lane roads. So, this and all previous steps were taken to improve road safety for everyone in the city.
