UAE: On January 23, 2025, the UAE’s first national railway network, Etihad Rail, made an outstanding announcement of the nation’s first high-speed, all-electric passenger train that will connect Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Solidifying rail transport links between the two major cities, this train will allow commuters to travel between the UAE’s capital city and the city of skyscrapers within half an hour.
Running at a stellar speed of 350 km/h, this all-electric passenger train will pass through six stations, Abu Dhabi’s stations, including Reem Island, Yas Island, Saadiyat, and Zayed International Airport, and Dubai’s stations, including Al Maktoum International Airport and Al Jaddaf area. In addition to this, world-class transport connecting Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Etihad Rail will launch a regular passenger train.
Etihad Rail’s Project: Transforming UAE’s Rail Links Connectivity
After unveiling this groundbreaking announcement, the Chief Projects Officer at Etihad Rail, Mohammed Al Shehhi, said no estimated time has been fixed for now for this high-speed rail project completion. This project and its infrastructure will be built after finalizing tenders. It is anticipated that in the coming 50 years, this high-speed rail project will add AED 145 billion to the Emirates’ gross domestic product (GDP).
The regular passenger train that has been announced to be built and launched with this all-electric passenger train between Dubai and Abu Dhabi will travel across the seven emirates and will eventually travel towards Oman, passing through Mezeira’s, along the Liwa Desert, and its famous Oasis. Additionally, the regular train will pass through stations in Sharjah and Fujairah, and once the Gulf Railway becomes operational, its network will be extended to the GCC.
UAE’s High-Speed All-Electric Passenger Train Will Make History
Etihad Rail’s high-speed, all-electric passenger train will make history and will greatly revolutionize rail connectivity in the nation. Running at an excellent speed of 350 km/h, it will take travelers from Dubai to Abu Dhabi in only 30 minutes. Additionally, the regular-speed passenger train that will connect the seven emirates will run at a speed of 200 km/h and will possess the capacity to accommodate 400 passengers. It will use the same rail as cargo rails and will pass through four stations, including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah. The spokesperson from Etihad Rail said that the train is ready and fully equipped; however, when its operations will be started is not confirmed.
